Have you ever considered joining a Board of Directors? Not even sure what that means?

As a non-profit organization, danceability has a Board of Directors that oversees the organization. The Board is comprised of volunteers who have a variety of skills and come together to keep the organization running. As they say, “it takes a village”, and the Board is one component of that village. The Board works directly with the Executive Director to ensure the organization continues to grow.

The Board of Directors is currently seeking additional Board members who can help further the mission of danceability. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with insurance, law and human resources backgrounds (but if that is not your field, don’t let that stop you from applying if you are interested!).

So what does being on the danceability Board of Directors entail? The Board meets once a month for about two hours. In addition, Board members are asked to join fundraising committees and assist with the planning of our major fundraisers. Board members are also asked to contribute to fundraisers by purchasing tickets, donating basket raffle items and recruiting sponsors. Board members are asked to help out at community events and attend other meetings as needed.

Above all of that time commitment, Board members are asked to be danceability advocates by making community connections and utilizing your personal network to get involved at danceability.

Our current Board is comprised of men and women of varying ages from a variety of different fields who are committed to expanding the reach of danceability in the community.

Joining a Board of Directors is a significant commitment, but one that our Board members have found incredibly rewarding. If you haven’t served on a Board previously, we encourage you to do some “homework” researching our organization to see if danceability would be a good fit. In addition, we encourage you to research being on a non-profit board of directors to get more insight on your responsibilities as a board member.

We welcome any members of our community to apply for a Board position and seek out additional information. If you are interested, please submit your resume and cover letter to danceabilitywny@gmail.com. Our Board Chair, Krystal Sondel, will be in touch to set up a meeting to discuss the Board in further detail and answer any questions you may have. We hope to get a handful of new Board members added by July 2016.
