How long have you been volunteering with danceability?

I started volunteering with danceability last year. I started by volunteering in two different classes on Thursday nights and have stuck with both of my dancers and have returned again for my second year.

Why did you decide to volunteer with danceability?

I worked at an after school respite program for People Inc. for four years. Through working there, I met some amazing individuals and their families; many who danced for danceability. After attending the recitals three years in a row to cheer them on, I realized that although I loved being a member of the audience, I wanted to get involved and have the opportunity to be on stage with these kids after seeing they joy it brings them and the way they shine. If I could be just a small part of their success and also have the chance to have constant smiles, laughs, and memories, there was no way I was going to let that opportunity pass me by.

What would you tell potential volunteers about joining the dancability family?

I would tell potential danceability volunteers that danceability truly is one big family. Danceability welcomed and embraced me with no hesitation and I believe that deciding to volunteer was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The friendships that I have formed with so many other volunteers and dancers I will forever be grateful for. Joining the danceability family will give you something to truly look forward to each week; an opportunity to dance, meet amazing people, and smile and laugh more than you ever have.

What is your favorite danceability memory to date?

I have to say my first recital (last May) was a magical day. It is an indescribable feeling watching these kids that you have worked with all year long; seen them grow as both dancers and people; gone through both tough days and amazing days together; and see everything come together on stage. I have never seen them happier or more proud of themselves and I felt the same way. I couldn’t believe how fast it went by but I can tell you that I am hooked. I will be volunteering with danceability for as long as I possibly can.

We always love hearing our volunteer stories. Each volunteer has so much pride for what they do and their energy comes through each week in class. Thank you to Jessica and all our volunteers for your continued hard work and dedication to danceability.
