Volunteer Spotlight: Ashley Bystrak

It’s time for another volunteer spotlight. This month we are featuring volunteer Ashley Bystrak. Ashley has been an incredible support for her dancers, volunteering in multiple classes. We asked Ashley about her danceability experiences, and here is what she had to say.

Why did you decide to volunteer at danceability?
I decided to volunteer at danceability because I needed service hours for school. I saw a flyer and thought it looked like a great opportunity. I came ready to dance for one season, but fell in love and had to stay!

What is your favorite part of class?
My favorite part of class is the catching up we do with the dancers while we stretch. I love to hear all of their stories, and I think it really makes a difference in the dancer-volunteer bond when a volunteer reaches out to learn about his or her dancer.

What is your favorite activity or song in class?
My favorite song that plays during class is “Animal Action”. The dancers, volunteers, and teachers get so into it; I love to see everyone’s dance moves.

What would you tell potential volunteers about joining the danceability team?
Danceability can give you countless memories and the experiences of a lifetime. Fair warning though, you WILL fall in love and find yourself coming back season after season.

My favorite danceability memory goes back to my first year with danceability. One of my dancers wore a “special scarf” to accompany his costume; we praised his creativity before the show. When we got on stage and the music started, he threw the scarf to the audience like the rockstar he was! Although it was unplanned, it embodied the danceability motto in every way!

Thanks, Ashley and all our volunteers for all the special ways you ensure our dancers are successful in the studio (and beyond). We couldn’t do it without you!
